Legatus,

After a season of harsh campaigning, we are retreating for the winter. Our efforts have not gone without merit. The raiding Khurite tribes have become surprisingly cautious, after being bloodied on more then one occasion. My command managed to establish defenses for the targeted villages and their industry, building tower defences, organizing a territory watch, and training small garrisons in the villages. But due to a shortage of food, armour parts, arrows, horses, weaponry and able men, we are unable to keep patrolling and defending the territories and are therefore retreating for the winter.

Three pitched battles took place within the season, among a series of raids, ambushes, guerrilla tactics and a few covert missions. I have to regretfully announce the loss of death of: 32 soldiers, 46 seriously injured and incapable of further combat duty over the course of the last 5 months. A more detailed report of our casualties and supplies are provided with this letter.

But we did manage to arrange a truth with the warring tribes for the coming winter lasting until spring, and a trade agreement to match, Grain in exchange for furs and felt and leather. And to secure that I left two of my squads under the Tindremene Noble, Amaryl Latrel fully equipped and stocked to ensure the safe continuation of that treaty, which will hopefully prevent the tribes from ruthlessly picking up the war again when the thaw arrives, though I doubt it will hold ground.

We expect the back-wages and resupply to come at my company’s disposal as fast as possible, so the centuries can regain full strength for the next campaign.

High Regards,
Chrystan Dalakarv,
Tribune, Fourth and Fifth centurion, Third cohort, First Legion,
Tindremic Imperial Army
